Once upon a time.....

.... in a land far, far away...

... there was Carcassone and the land of the Cathars.  Fairy tale scenery and tragic history.  We had three nights staying in the old town of Carcassone.  Crowded with tourists during the day but at night there seem to be more ghosts than living people about.  Spent the days visiting ruined castles and Cathar strongholds and quaint little villages.

Then for a  complete change of scenery - Collioure, a seaside resort.  More forts and castles, but also fishing boats and beaches. Life and food here have a somewhat more Spanish flavour.  Pretty little streets with lots of artists' studios.  Touristy but not tacky, but then it's not really tourist season here yet.  I think at the height of summer it would not be as pleasant.

Lovely photos. Too many to be able to single out favourites, castles, flowers, that seagull.

Yes, the great thing about digital cameras is that you can take so many photos. The bad thing about digital cameras is that you can take so many photos. ;)

I really love the seagull. French seagulls are just so much bigger than our little Aussie ones!
