So, this is winter ...

I’ve spent many summers on this beach, but this is my first winter. And today is the most perfect winter’s day – air temperature 19o; water temperature 19o; humidity 47%; wind, nil and crowds, nil.

It’s a long weekend here, so there are more people on the beach today than I have seen for weeks, but still only a couple of dozen. Last week I walked the entire length of the beach and saw not one other person. Any wonder I’ve started describing it as ‘my’ beach?

And while the weather is perfect today, we have just experienced a week of wild winter weather; thunder storms; raging seas that have gouged away large tracts of the beach and thick sea fog that obsured the view entirely; rain squalls driven by howling southerly winds, followed by glorious rainbows.

But even when the weather is bad, this place is beautiful.

Here's a morning storm approaching from the east.

The cooler weather makes for good walking conditions and the cliff walks are spectacular.

There's a dragon hiding in these rocks.

  Rough seas,

very rough, so definitely no swimming here.
