I've never seen anything like this...

Sydney has been enveloped by an incredible dust storm.

It's amazing. Eerie.  Disturbing.

I'm just so surprised that people were still out exercising in this; even inside our air-conditioned office the dust is present.

The sad thing is too, that this is precious top soil from west of the Blue Mountains, an area that is still very much in drought.  Another blow for the already struggling farmers.

I saw whales today ...

  • Jun. 9th, 2009 at 10:09 AM
Summer
... two beautiful humpback whales swimming side by side, so close and in such perfect synchronicity that at first sight I thought it was just one lone creature.

They surfaced and sprayed; they dived, surfaced again.  All in all they spent about 30 minutes in close proximity to the shore swimming in lazy circles, and finally, as they moved on to continue their  journey north, one raised it's broad white tail and waved, like it knew we were watching.

So, this is winter ...

Summer

I’ve spent many summers on this beach, but this is my first winter. And today is the most perfect winter’s day – air temperature 19o; water temperature 19o; humidity 47%; wind, nil and crowds, nil.

A DV Fic, ever so slightly slashy.

The boyz still seem to be dealing with the aftermath of The Reckoning; now Francis is desirous of a few final words …..

I'm just about to leave for a week's holiday in Victoria.  I don't know if I'll have any net access while I'm away; if not I'll look forward to catching up with you all on my return.    :)

What's Your Medieval Profession?

The World Encompassed
You Are a Cartographer
You have a wide range of knowledge and you're very detail oriented.
You have a photographic memory, and you remember places very well.

Like a middle ages cartographer, you're also very adventurous and curious about the world.
In modern times, you would make a good non-fiction writer or scientist.
What's Your Medieval Profession?

Apart from probably being horribly seasick, I would enjoy this!

Leonard is Love

Leonard Cohen performed his first Sydney concert last night. He was brilliant. He was smooth; he was suave; he was so, so sexy.

At 74 years of age he bounced onto the stage; the audience was immediately on their feet to welcome him. His first song, Dance me to the End of Love – perfection – and so he continued, one fabulous hit after another.

The Entertainment Centre is a big barn of a place; not my favourite venue in Sydney, and it was a sellout of course. Leonard hasn’t been in Australia since the mid eighties. But despite all those thousands of people around me I can still imagine that he is singing and speaking just to me.

His band was wonderful. He lovingly allowed each of the band members to showcase their talents; they provided a perfect balance of colour and harmony that allowed Leonard’s voice, his deep, seductive voice, to convey all the emotions that his words deserve. And his diction! Every word – I heard every word he sang.

He introduced his band and I’m thinking: Wow, that was a great concert – but wait, he wasn’t saying goodbye; he was saying he’ll be back in a bit for the second half of the show!

In all I think he sang more than twenty songs and also recited two poems, at times he chatted to the audience in his sardonic style and at the end, after three encores he blessed us all. Well, we felt bless I can tell you. All those thousands of fans went out into the entertainment precinct on a warm summer evening floating on a sea of Leonard Love.
